ABOUT THE FIRM
Originally founded in 1976 as Hourdequin and Associates in Tallahassee, Florida, the firm has completed thousands of structural engineering projects over the past 30 years. These have included a variety of commercial, industrial, and residential projects utilizing every commonly used structural material and system.
For the past fifteen years, the firm has operated under its current name. It began initially in Sarasota, Florida and for the past eleven years, has been located in Western North Carolina - first in Highlands/Macon County and as of February 2008 in Hayesville/Clay County.
The firm now specializes in timber and related structural engineering. We have completed nearly 500 timber frame and log system designs and that number is increasing by about 100 projects per year. These range in size from small residential to large commercial projects.
MEET
OWNER DAVID R. HOURDEQUIN, PE
David Hourdequin, the President and Owner, received his Bachelor of Civil Engineering Degree from the University of Florida in 1964 after studying pre-engineering at Florida State University. He earned a Master's Degree in Engineer Management at the University of South Florida in 1992 while working full time as an owner and manager of a commercial construction company. During his career, Mr. Hourdequin has been engaged as a structural sub-contractor, general contractor, construction manager, development manager, and structural engineer. He served as Director of Engineering for the Holiday Inn hotel system and Director of Engineering and Construction for the Hampton Inn hotel system.
David Hourdequin is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, American Forest and Paper Association , American Wood Council, the American Institute of Timber Construction, Great Lakes Log Crafters Association, the International Log Builders Association, the Timber Framers Guild, the Timber Frame Business Council, the Timber Frame Engineering Council and their Technical Activities Committee. Licenses are active in fourteen Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic States and other state registrations can be obtained by reciprocity. His wife Anne, serves as Office Manager and Bookkeeper.
Mr. Hourdequin also served on The Advisory Council to the School of Construction Management at Western Carolina University.
Hobbies include Astronomy (Observing and Amateur Telescope Making), Adventure Motorcycling, Light Sport Aircraft, Amateur Radio, Fly Fishing, Folk Guitar, and Photography.
